“I’m from Boston, I do hockey,” I cried in exasperation last week to a poor high school quarterback who laughed at me as I told him to catch the ball.  Because I though that was his job.  Despite my lack of knowledge of the sport, football season came thundering in.  On the way to my first game I called up a good friend Kristyn (and even better photographer) as I was stuck in traffic “teach me football in 5 minutes” I yelled before she could say hello.  There was more laughing and road rage than anything else. Despite my apprehensiveness, my coworkers convinced me I hadn’t done as horribly as I thought.  I even work up to a nice 6:30 am Saturday morning text from my boss complimenting me on my job.  And when it came time to do it all again Saturday night I did it with a working 80-200 and a new found confidence.

I still may not understand the concepts of downs, and get confused as to which team has the ball at points, but this is a definite start and a good one at that to a long lasting relationship with me and football.  (At least until I make my way back north to hockey)  See below the jump for more photos!

Today was a slow news day.  Since I started at the Lima News a week ago, the big story has been The Allen County Fair.  Being the girl from “Bawston” who has a fascination with fairs being as before this summer I had never been to one, I was dubbed the primary shooter for the week and a half long event.  Whether I wanted to be or not.  Today, with some free time on my hand, me and a coworker were bouncing off ideas about how to take a different angle on this fair that I have been living out.  “Bring this,” he said and angels sung as he pulled a magic 10mm2.8 lens from a drawer.  I giggled a bit, he didn’t know my guilty pleasure is going wider than ever needed, and ran out the door.  So here it is, The Allen County Fair as seen with a 10mm on a crop body.  See below for more photos!

As somewhat of a next step in my great quest of photojournalism I have moved to Lima, Ohio to be the next in a great long line of photo interns.  For upcoming work check out the blog and also limadaybyday which I shall be updating after every shift.ish.  So keep your eyes open to see what comes along!

As I sit back in my “Boston bed” procrastinating packing once again, here is a culmination of sorts following my summer with the Public Affairs Office at Fort Knox, Kentucky.  For my updated blog that I kept while down there, click here.
